On A Rambling Blogging Hop We Shall Go…

The Next Big Blog Hop tour…

The Rules:

Answer these ten questions about your current Work-In-Progress on your blog,
Tag five other writer/bloggers and add their links so we can hop over and meet them.

Ten Interview Questions:

What is the working title of your book?

Falling Angels

Where did the idea come from for the book?

An image of the victim, hanging in the air, suspended by the horns of a longhorn mounted on the wall.

What genre does your book fall under?

Mystery/Private Detective story.

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

Jude Law as “Frank Coulter”, Alan Cummings as “Elliot Durand”, Tom Cruise as “Sledgehammer Jimmie Dunne”,  Christina Hendricks as “Black Mary Dunne”, Anna Torv as “Annabelle McBurney”

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

Who would be stupid enough to murder a major mob boss’s wife, and why?

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

I’m planning on submitting it to indie publishers without an agent.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

Ah, the silly assumption that I’ve finished my first draft. All in all, I’ve probably spent 200 hours on it.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

I’m really not sure… I won’t compare it to the greats of noir lit, so, no answer really. “I am but an egg.”

Who or What inspired you to write this book?

A bit of meta-fiction – a character in a novella I wrote was a writer, struggling with a difficult scene in the noir-ish P.I. story he was writing. Rie Sheriden Rose critiqued the novella, and said she wanted the to read the novel the character, Roy Wells, was writing.

What else about the your book might pique the reader’s interest?

A lot of quirky characters and locations – Venton City is my own creation, a mix of Kansas City and Chicago fallen on perpetual hard times, an early 1950’s city that war – and post-war – prosperity never reached. The main characters – the staff of Durand & Coulter, Private Investigators and the heads of the Dunne and Sperini crime families – are supported by a rich soup of supporting characters.
