Early Morning Reality Check

i realized this morning that at the rate things are going, the chapter of “Oil of Roses” dealing with the big party is going to probably weigh in at about 60-70k words… and knowing me, potentially up in the 80-90k range if something new occurs to me… authorial diarrhea – it’s my friend.
that’s right at the bottom range of a novel-length manuscript to fuck near the top of the range…
for one chapter…
one event…
one, roughly, thirty-six hour period…

do you know how daunting that is?
i look at it, i try to get under all the characters and plot lines and make sure i’m not forgetting anyone or leaving anything dangling that ought to be handled at this grand social event, realize that i’ve written myself into a couple of corners that i’m going to have to dance right sprightly to get out of…

luckily, after this party, the story line calendar up to the point i’ve repeatedly said will end the ‘free’ part of the story isn’t that full… a lot goes on, but with one exception, it’s following individual story lines, not bringing them all together in one place at one time, so it should be easier… he says prayerfully… hopefully… okay, two exceptions… :: sigh :: there may be a third exception as well.

i do this why?
oh yeah, that’s why… because i said i’d finish it, and because i have a lot of readers who want it finished.

Listening to: my brain trying to come on line… sounds like an old vacuum cleaner that just won’t start
Mood: daunted
